I've recently joined AEI,s 3Mbs service. All seems to be ok except
for the news server.

My connectivity to the news server is great. All the posts seem to be
there, and those that are complete download fast. Problem is the
incompletes.

I've called tech support, and they tell me there is nothing wrong.
When they check the groups, all files are complete. But for me they
are always incomplete. They also say that no one else has complained.

Could there be some setting or settings that I might have wrong? I am
also using Teranews as a server, but all their files are complete.
But sometimes have connectivity issues through AEI.

Anybody with a suggestion??

Thanks much

I've heard that AEI's news servers are in fact Sympatico's. And
from the sound of it, so is their tech support personnel.

From what I've seen in past posts, AEI likes to pretend that
everything is fine while Rome is burning.

Would be a shame if the Sympatico rumour is true. But the Rome
comment sounds just like them!

Sympatico 'rumour' of highspeed being uncapped and not being charged for
the extra GBs used? Doesn't look like a rumour anymore, though they still
know exactly how much you've downloaded. Videotron has apparently also
lifted their cap on their 4Mbps ultra highspeed internet (good luck if
they didn't upgrade their infrastructure).

There was never an ISP that didn't play that game.

I've heard otherwise about AEI on DSL Reports. I liked this comment best.

Wow, that bad huh. Luckily, it's not all that bad for me, but since I
want good binary retention and completion, it's enough for me to say
adios.

Then you're lucky so far.

I guess nobody has called them to complain about your line.

Don't expect any support from AEI. They have no effective
support department. They told me to quit bothering them about
dropped connections because I was distracting them from servicing
other customers.

Their web site hasn't changed in almost three years. That gives
you an idea of how dynamic they are.

AEI News servers were frequently out of service for days at
a time with no advance warning and no status web page to
explain why. I didn't bother emailing them, I wouldn't have
expected an answer. When they did come back up, it was often
with less retention and poorer completions which took many days
to return to normal.

When I joined, the news server was down completly. I didn't think
much of it until a few days later when it was still down. I called
constantly to complain, and they just wanted to give me the brush off.
Well something else .... off to them! I'm leaving.

Will check out the Broadband reports forums more thouroughly this
time.

My suggestion is always have a dial-up backup connection if you're with
AEI. Worst ISP in the whole God dam world. So bad it should be free but
anyone would take a working paid internet service over a free AEI. Text
yes text headers not binary headers take about 8 hours to download. No
problem just leave everything on overnight and set your alarm clock for
every half hour to reconnect to the internet knowing YER dsl modem will
lose synch just as plain as day. Y9u can even stare at y8our modem and
it will lose the connection that's how bad it is.
