My Teksavvy service was activated earlier today, and all seemed pretty
good, looking to fire Rogers.
But I just lost my connection - is there currently a Teksavvy issue, or
a problem at my end?
I'm using a 2Wire 2700HG-B modem, wired ethernet. Modem indicates power
good, ethernet good, dsl good, internet no good.
I have re-booted the modem, an IP address has been assigned to the
computer, but no connection to the net.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

I'm on Teksavvy and things seem to work.

Can you ping 206.248.154.102 ? (should be the first router from you.)

Are you getting an 206.248.*.* IP address ?

Which DNS servers are you getting told to use ?
If you don't get any, try:
65.39.192.130 and 65.39.196.215

I have no internet connection at all on that modem - hence no IP address.
The computer has a private 192.168.x.x IP address assigned by the modem.

So I can't ping anyone anywhere.

Posting this from a different machine, using Rogers internet connection.

But thanks for trying....

Sorry. You had said that the computer had been assigned an IP.

Ok, then, wwe have to start with all the questions:

If your computer has a private LAN IP, then your router is the one in
charge of negotiating PPPoE with the ISP. So you need to access your
router to find out whatr is going on.

With PPPoE, you specify a ***@teksavvy.con as well as a password, and
set the router to be in PPPoE mode with the WAN side. This will then
negotiate with teksavvy for an IP and other parameters.

Your router would also have long files to indicate why it might be
unable to connect to the ISP. Do you have a combination of DSLmodem and
router, or is your router separate from your DSL modem ?

The connection is back up now. The modem keeps trying until it
successfully connects.

I had a connection earlier Wednesday, it was my initial account activation.
I had configured the modem/router properly, with all the necessary PPPoE
configs, username, password, and all was well.
It just dropped off-line shortly before 1am Thursday (today), but it is
back now, it has re-established itself.

The modem is a combo modem/router, it doesn't seem to keep logs, but it
is new to me and I don't know all its functions yet.
It does have a status page, but that page only confirmed that I had no
internet connection or IP, no reasons for that status.

Teksavvy sent a broadcast message on May 18 stating they would be doing
considerable network maintenance/upgrade intermittently for the
following 6 weeks. Typically they do this in the wee hours. Perhaps you
hit one of those.

Hmm... We weren't working on anything last night... I'd call in.

Marginal connection. Suggestion move to a phone outlet closer to the demarc
point.

Actually, the magnificent 2wire router does just about everything.
It's just that some of the more useful pages aren't exposed very well.

Here are some of the more common links on it.
Use the "Management" one and take the "detailed logs" link.

Try a different modem and a different operating system.
Post by Paul Babiak
My Teksavvy service was activated earlier today, and all seemed pretty
good, looking to fire Rogers.
But I just lost my connection - is there currently a Teksavvy issue, or
a problem at my end?
I'm using a 2Wire 2700HG-B modem, wired ethernet. Modem indicates power
good, ethernet good, dsl good, internet no good.
I have re-booted the modem, an IP address has been assigned to the
computer, but no connection to the net.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

I would, if I had another of either...

But thanks for replying.

I always run modems in bridge mode just in case something like this
happens. The cpu and memory of most modems just can't handle today's
demanding taks 24/7. That's why i run them in bridge mode. See if you can
log into the setup screen. If you can't the modem likely broke. If you can
try bridge mode and ***@test for the user name and test for the password
to see if you can connect.

Curiously, the connection is back - the modem keeps trying until it gets
a connection.
But I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks.

Good for you. I'm finding life after Rogers pretty good.

But I just lost my connection
When I first got hooked up to DSL I had quite a few problems with
dropped connections. I had a couple of plug-in phone filters that
provided inadequate filtering, such that a ringing phone or picking
up the phone caused a loss of connection.

I got one of these: http://www.comtest.ca/cpe-01.htm
and have not had a moment of trouble since. My modem shows typical
session connect times of 60+ days uninterrupted.
